Sedation Dentistry
We understand that the dentist can be a high source of anxiety. Regardless of your fears, it is incredibly important to seek regular dental care, so we are here to make the process as easy as possible for you. That’s why we offer sedation dentistry. This is a relaxing solution to help put you at ease during your entire appointment. Sedation dentistry comes in a variety of different forms:
Nitrous Oxide
You may not have heard of nitrous oxide, but you’re more than likely familiar with its common name; laughing gas. Laughing gas is a mild form of sedation that is given to you through a nasal mask. Breathing in laughing gas will make you feel calm and at ease for your treatment. When the gas is removed, the effects of the gas will wear off in just a couple of minutes. This means you can return to your daily activities right after treatment.
Oral Conscious Sedation
If your dental anxiety cannot be helped with laughing gas, we may suggest oral conscious sedation. Before your appointment, Dr. Van Huffel will give you a prescription for an oral medication. This will not put you all the way to sleep but will put you in a deep state of relaxation and will make your appointment feel like it has gone by very quickly. If you use oral conscious sedation, you will need to be driven to and picked up from your appointment and you should plan on taking the rest of the day off.
IV Sedation
IV sedation is incredibly effective and will put you in a very deep state of relaxation. Just like oral conscious sedation, you will need an escort after your appointment and will not be able to return to your daily duties until the following day.
Sedation dentistry is a great way to ease any fears, phobias, and anxieties you may have surrounding the dentist and your dental treatment. If you want to learn more about our sedation dentistry options, please do not hesitate to call our office.
