Putting Dental Fear to Rest with Sedation Dentistry in Gahanna
When faced with upcoming dental work, many patients become wary, anxious, or frightened. Dr. Maria Van Huffel and her team understand the problem of dental phobia well – but the last thing we want is for you to go without the quality care your smile needs to stay healthy. That’s why we’re happy to provide sedation dentistry as an effective, relaxing solution that puts you or your loved ones at ease throughout their entire appointment. Better yet, several options are available depending on your unique needs and comfort level. Please contact our Gahanna, OH practice today to learn more about sedation dentistry at your next appointment. Patients from New Albany, Westerville, and beyond are also welcome!
Nitrous oxide (also known as “laughing gas”) is the mildest form of sedation, and it’s transferred to the patient through a nasal mask. Within minutes of breathing in the gas, patients begin to feel calmer and more content allowing our team to provide the care you need in a comfortable fashion. The most valuable benefit of nitrous oxide is that the effects wear off quickly once the mask is removed, allowing you and your loved ones to immediately return to work or school.
Oral Conscious Sedation
Oral conscious sedation is ideal for patients with moderate dental anxiety. Dr. Van Huffel provides you with a prescription for oral medication that should be taken at a predetermined point before your appointment. While patients won’t technically fall asleep, they enter a deep state of relaxation that creates an amnesic effect allowing an hours-long procedure to feel like it’s over in minutes. Patients undergoing oral conscious sedation need an escort to bring them to and from our office, as well as keep an eye on them for the rest of the day.
IV sedation is the most effective option available due to its intravenous delivery that allows Dr. Van Huffel to adjust the level of sedative the patient is receiving throughout the procedure for maximum comfort. Patients enter a deep state of relaxation. Like oral conscious sedation, it’s required that you have a trusted friend or family member bring you home after your appointment. By the following morning, the effects of sedation will have completely worn off allowing you to enjoy improved oral health to the fullest!
